The Pelican has been used as a liturgical symbol since the early days of Christianity to denote the tender care of the young by a parent and by the Church. It is presented to adults, men or women, working in any of the Diocesan sponsored scouting youth programs. The candidate should have been active in the Religious Emblem or Retreat programs and have made a significant contribution to youth.
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award
The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton award recognizes the meritorious contributions of adults who serve Catholic youth and who service is of a notable nature made through any church sponsored program contributing to the spiritual development of youth. It is available to both lay and religious leaders. In the Diocese of Tulsa, a recipient of this award must have previously received the Bronze Pelican Award.
Saint Anne Medal
The St. Anne Medal is the highest national recognition for adults who serve Catholic youth. The purposes of the St. Anne recognition are to honor the outstanding services of adults who contribute to the spiritual development of Catholic young people and to further Catholic adult leadership in youth ministry through these national youth-serving organizations. It is awarded by the National Catholic Conference for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire at the recommendation of the Bishop. In the Diocese of Tulsa, a recipient of this award must have previously received the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award.
Saint George Emblem
St. George emblem is awarded to members of the laity and clergy, Scouters and non-Scouters alike, who have made significant and outstanding contributions in the development of the religious aspects of Scouting. It is made by the National Catholic Committee on Scouts of the Boy Scouts of America, at the recommendation of the Bishop. In the Diocese of Tulsa, a recipient of this emblem must have previously received the Bronze Pelican Award.
