by The Most Reverend Paul S. Coakley - Archbishop, Archdiocese of Oklahoma City
September 21, 2014, St. Francis of Assisi Church - Praised be Jesus Christ! It is my great privilege to welcome you to St. Francis of Assisi Church and to spend this hour together with the Lord in prayer and adoration. Thank you for being here. Your presence is a powerful witness of faith in the midst of what has been a particularly challenging time for our community. I would like to gratefully acknowledge the participation of our Catholic people from around the Archdiocese but also those of you who have come from near and far to join us today. I am especially grateful for the presence of my brother bishops (and their support), Archbishop Beltran, Bishop Slattery of Tulsa, Bishop Kemme of Wichita and so many priests, deacons and religious women and men. It is a special blessing to recognize here so many Christian leaders and believers from other churches and ecclesial communities who have come to join us in prayer as well.
The Diocese of Tulsa has been challenged by Catholic Extension to raise $100,000 for the St. John Vianney Seminarian Education Trust. (The interest from St. John Vianney Seminary Education Trust is used to pay the seminary education expenses of the seminarian in the Diocese of Tulsa) If we raise $100,000 in the calendar year 2014, we will receive $50,000 from Catholic Extension for the Trust.
ST. MARY'S RESTORATION FUND Our Church is a sign of the faith tradition that has inspired parishioners and visitors alike for many years. Matícka Praha is in need of restoration. The target date for the completion of this project is August 15, 2015, the 160th Anniversary of the erection of the parish and the 120th Anniversary of the present Church building. The Restoration Fund is set up to afford parishioners and benefactors of the parish the opportunity to be a part of this historic event. We ask you to prayerfully consider making a donation. You may choose a two-year payment plan, give a one-time gift, or make a donation towards an item of your choice in memory of a loved one. The estimated cost of the restoration project will be determined when all the bids are submitted.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, a local satanic sect apparently will be allowed to conduct a public act of blasphemy in the form of a so-called black mass at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City. In spite of an overwhelming outcry of alarm from around the world, our city leaders will allow this outrage to take place in a publicly supported facility. They will not accede to the reasonable requests of local citizens to stop this outright mockery of the Catholic Mass nor the reasonable concerns of so many that this satanic ritual invokes powers of evil and invites them into our community.
September 10, 2014 - The Satanic group which calls itself Dakhma of Angra Mainyu has not retreated from its plan to offer a kind of Black Mass in Oklahoma City on September 21.
September 13, 2014 - Bishop Kurt Burnette of the Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Passaic has asked Bishop Slattery to inform the people of the Diocese of Tulsa of the upcoming beatification of an American nun, Sister Miriam Teresa Demjanovich. Bishop Slattery would like everyone to read her brief biography below and pray for her cause for canonization.
