OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), formerly called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), is the process through which one becomes a full member of the Roman Catholic Church. The OCIA process is a period of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment and formation. There is no standard timetable, although there are rites that mark the stages of preparation. While most catechumens and candidates will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil, OCIA encourages them to get involved in the parish community sowing seeds of discipleship that will grow well beyond full reception in the Catholic Church.
